Ew, they made 3 of those Butterfly Effect movies? Really?

A Christmas Story was on a 24/7 marathon starting from the evening of Christmas Eve. I really love that movie, and it's fun watching with the family. It's my father's favorite Christmas movie. The kid getting his tongue stuck to a pole is so painfully hilarious.

Agreed. I had plenty of things to say to the girlfriend at the time when we rented the DVD out one night. I keep seeing the second one in every HMV sale they ever have, didn't realize the studio couldn't take a hint & they made a third.

Haven't seen the first 2. Mate of mine said that the 3 films have nothing to do with eachother, so it saves me from watching them. Very Happy

    Couple's Retreat

As with 2012, my friends and I needed another bad movie to put on our "worst 10 list" of 2009, so we decided to check this one out. The first 20 minutes weren't that bad. They actually were pretty decent. Then when they got to the island, it all went to shit. No plot, seemingly no attempt at jokes, characters that we couldn't care less about. Just an awful film.

Why would anyone keep going to see shit films so they could make a list of shit films that no body cares about except them?

Well, for one, we never really spend much money on them. We wait until they're out on DVD or at the dollar theatre near us. Secondly, laughing at a movie that is supposed to be serious is almost more fun than laughing at a really good comedy, especially when you're in theatres. I mean, we had a Nick Cage-a-thon this summer, and that was just pure bliss. Just absolutely awful movies.

Public Enemy Very good without being as great as I'd hoped. They blurred the lines between bad guys with good intentions & good guys who will stop at nothing very well. Definately worth a watch.

Bruno I haven't laughed at a movie so hard in ages. That being said, there were times it was a little close to the knuckle for comfort & a few parts that just dragged, but a lot of great satire about today's society (specifically what parents will do to get their kids famous). Cohen is at his best when people have no clue about who the character is (as was the way when Ali G first started out, long before the movie).

I've watched Public Enemy, it was a good film. I was debating whether or not to watch Bruno, but now that I have Netflix, I'll eventually get around to it.

I have seen Sherlock Holmes, Avatar, and Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 within the past two weeks.

Sherlock Holmes was excellent. Robert Downey Jr. is bloody awesome in every film he's in. They need to give this guy a Golden Globe already. He deserved one for his performance in Tropic Thunder, but no one was going to win it over Heath, (better had not).

Avatar is an instant classic. (Even though the script was cliched).

And I was dragged to go see Alvin and the Chipmunks 2, but to my surprise, I actually enjoyed watching this film. It was very funny, however, the ending was massively weak.

    Sherlock Holmes

It was good enough, not brilliant. Downey was quite good, but it was Jude Law who held everything together for me. I do enjoy Mark Strongs performances, though his character is a bit forgetable. All round good movie though.

Ditto. That's pretty much exactly how I felt, though I didn't quite share the sentiments on Law. I thought he was fine, but nothing too remarkable.

The special effects are faultless, but under all the jazz lies a formulaic story with an ending that would make Disney proud. Disappointing.

That's been my view from the trailers alone, which is why I'm not paying to see it.

It has all the hallmarks of Dune...looks absolutely spectacular but with a story so flat and lifeless it would make Keira Knightley look like Jordan.

Star Trek - Amazing reimagining of a great series. I think this is what Star Wars 1 and 2 was trying to do, but fell short. While 3 and Trek pulled it off. Not slow paced, and not head spinning fqast, to keep your attention, all around great movie. Hoping for sequels...

I think one of the stregnths is that it appealled to non-trekies, my lass hates trek but loved this.

I saw Shooter the other day... It was bloody marvelous, especially because I'm addicted to Modern Warfare 2 at the moment.

Also watched Youth in Revolt in the theaters. It's a very intelligent and funny film.... for a teen flick with themes that are sexually driven. Michael Cera delivered a great dynamic performance and branches out from his usual roles. This movie is one of my favorite comedies now. cool v

    The Book of Eli

This film moved rather slowly, and there were too many unnecessary scenes of the main characters traveling. Although it may be significant to the plot, it could have been a little bit more entertaining.

Other than that, its a great film. Definitely deserves a second viewing on DVD and the performances were outstanding.

Saw this last night and I agree it was a bit slow in getting started, they should have made better use of Mila Kunis as well she was far to heavily dressed for my liking

It was good. I thought the innovation and the spectacle of it were just remarkable. However, I have a philosophy. If I'm watching a movie and there is a serious moment, and I'm literally laughing out loud, something is wrong, whether it's the acting or the script. There were about 5 or 6 of those moments in the movie where that happened. It's unfortunate that there were as many pitfalls as there were, because I think it could have been really, really great.

Watched Avatar again because there was nothing else good playing at the theaters. For a further opinion, yep, it's still awesome. But not perfect. ****

    (500) Days of Summer I absolutely loved this. Awesome script, one of the better of 2009 and Gordon-Levitt's performance was great. And I do not have a problem in looking at Zooey Deschanel (sp?) either, so this is good to me. ****.
