    The Wrestler
Not bad. Although they could have saved money by just following Jake Roberts around for a few weeks.

Surely that's what happens most of the time?

I reckon this thread has prevented a lot of threads and therefore discussions being made. The Wrestler would of been at least 3 pages as a single thread, rather than the odd I've seen it comment.

There's nothing stopping anyone actually starting these threads though & having a discussion solely about the one film though.

Exactly. I wouldn't really count people saying 'I've seen it' as conversation anyway.

Besides, if a discussion gets large enough I can't see why a mod wouldn't split it to make a new thread

You're both right, but it hasn't been happening, and I don't think it's right that we give the mods more work.

tidied - TDK posts now split off - just an issue when the others went across too...
and yes, any big film should have a thread of its own. Whether you've seen it or just want to discuss it, for example the recent Watchmen issues, you shouldn't just feel like you have to post here.

But if it gets big enought to deserve it, yes, we'll split it if needs must Cool

Last night I went to see The Wrestler. I quite enjoyed it. I liked the fact they managed to get some proper wrestlers involved in the project rather than try and choreograph a bunch of actors with no wrestling experience for the wrestling scenes. Wasn't surprised to read that Vinny Mac didn't like the film. I think Mickey Rourke did an excellent job as Randy.

I would have liked to have seen maybe some brief clips of the first Randy vs The Ayahtolla match in the opening credits rather than a bunch of flyers & review articles & hearing some commentary, but I guess that's just nip-picking at an otherwise great film.

The Ice Storm- quite a good film, all the younger stars were very good in it (Elijah Wood, Christina Ricci, Tobey Maguire and the kid who played the young Robin Williams in Jumanji)

Sin City - Fantastic! I look forward to the sequel. Personally I think the stories should of been more intertwined like in Pulp Fiction but that's only a minor criticism.

I was left cold by Sin City. Frank Millar is really going into his crazy old man phase now, although fair play to any fellow comic nerd who can make Jessica Alba dress like that.

They were to an extent - when Hartigan is at the club where Nancy's danciing, the crowd watching her include Marv and Jackie Boy, and Brittany Murphy (can't reember the characters name) is the waitress he talks with.

Plus don't the remote locations in Marv and Hartigan's story both involve "the farm"?

Saw The Wrestler last night. It's ok, nothing like deserving of the hype it's getting though. I thought the ending was anticlimatic and I didn't like the way basically nothing had changed from the start of the film by the end of it. Yes I know it might be more realistic that way, but as a film experience I was left a bit underwhelmed. Rourke was very good though.

The Wrestler Really enjoyed it. Worryingly enough, it's not too far removed from the truth. People take huge risks with their bodies, earn some decent money in their prime, but don't invest it sensibly a lot of the time. Then by the time they're washed up & over the hill, almost nobody gives a shit about them. Rourke was very good & I did mark for the Nigel McGuinness cameo. As a wrestling fan, you undoubtably get a different perspective from the film, but even non wrestling fans that have seen this have enjoyed it.

Valkerie It's decent. Not an all time classic, but if you're remotely into your WW2 movies, you'll enjoy it. Not the planet America saves the world I thought it might have been, which helped. Very strong supporting cast, most of which you will recognise from somewhere but be unable to place.

    Bully

Very dark, very tense and very real. This was an excellent movie that really took its toll on me. The fact that it is a true story and told to such an accurate degree is what really sells the film. I recommend it to all but its a disturbing and difficult watch.

Last thing mentioned that I've seen was Sin City. Really good movie that one!

    Kids

Funnily enough by the same director as Outlaw's movie. Again, very depressing but extremely true to life.

    Tropic Thunder

What a brilliant film! Laughed so much in places I nearly wet myself. Thought Robert Downey Jnr thoroughly deserves an oscar for his role in this. Very cleverly written, very well done all round.

I did notice that, but I think there should have been more intertwining!

I've seen both Bully and Kids. Kids was really good and fully enjoyable and Bully was good and had a decent story. The thing I didn't like about Bully was the amount of naked young actresses. I really don't want to see full frontals of people playing teenagers in a film...

Underworld- Rise of the Lycans I liked it although I wish i had refreshed myself with the first two before watching it because it took my ages to remember half the stuff that was going on and little part characters and why they are important in the others. Aside from that it was easy Friday night viewing

    The 51st State
I enjoyed it. It's not a bad film, perfect for late night, mindless Friday viewing. Although I'd have enjoyed it more if my Freeview box was playing silly buggers & freezing and/or losing sound.

HEAT- just watched it for the first time in ages and its still brilliant. The Dark Knight really does borrow heavily from it though aside from the bank job theres the kinda high pitched tone they play from time to time to heighten the tension I know they probably do it in a million films but it really stuck it with me here

Taken - It was okay, Neeson was fantastic but the movie was really flawed. It should've been named "Liam Neeson is a Genius, Everyone Else is Stupid." Worth a watch, though.

    Slumdog Millionaire

Good film. At the start, some of the opening moments made me think I wasn't going to enjoy it, but within a few minutes the flashbacks made total sense and I really got into the film. Don't know if it's a film I would enjoy watching a second time, however.
