I'm shaken at the moment, he just played on Sunday and he was certainly going to be in the world cup next year. Lost for words.

Such a tragedy, his daughter died 2 years ago and rumour has it he was a Charlton fan. It just goes to show that footballers are human as well.

Had 8, he would have played the last few games but he had a virus and had to miss them and wasn't picked for against Chile on Staurday which was called off.
Apparently the virus was a part of the depression he suffered under.

He suffered from depression since his Barcelona times and was treated by a psychiatrist. Must have been a blow as his daughter died at the age of 2 but he never wanted the public to know from his depression because he was afraid of losing his adopted daughter, his career and everything else.
He left a suicide note, apologizing for hiding his suicide plans before everyone.

I still just can't get over it. He was an idol and Hannover's face in the last few years, he was a fighter and generous bloke. He was also involved with animal rights campaigns and adopted a girl this year.

I still hope the topic "depression" get's in the light because it is a serious thing. Sebastian Deisler ended his career because of it and he managed it the other way.

There's plenty of footballers who suffer from it (Gazza, Sol Campbell, etc). I'm surprised by the media reaction which claiming fans are surprised that people with money can be sad?! Don't they realise that football fans also have other interests and that other fields of entertainment have had suicides? Music, film and wrestling being the most obvious ones.

The thing about depression, if you hide it like he does, it just gets worse.
