    New PPV Concept?

    Post  Shaun2J on Mon May 18, 2009 7:31 pm

The idea of a gimmick-oriented pay-per-view is nothing new for pro wrestling. And, as WWE looks for ways to boost interest in its non-major events, it appears it has found another concept for which it believes fans will shell out pay-per-view dollars.

The new idea, according to a report on PWInsider.com, is for a card entirely comprised of submission matches. WWE sent out a mailing list survey this morning, asking fans to give their input on a number of potential name ideas for the card.

    The name suggestions:

    WWE Total Submission
    WWE Submission Sunday
    WWE Breaking Point
    WWE Submit & Quit

Kind of like the idea. The crowd should be into the numerous submission attempts.

Not sure myself. I like submission matches, but having lots of them on the same show doesn't really appeal.

Maybe in two or three matches but after that the effect will wear off. A match based around submission needs to have a strong basis in psychology and storytelling and the diluted WWE style these days just doesn't allow for that.

Do WWE really have enough guys with enough submission holds over enough to create a compelling PPV? Genuine question because I don't know for sure. If not, then the TV leading up to it is going to be filled with potentially quite silly matches where everyone is finishing with holds they've never used before. It'll be like that awkward time Triple H tried to get the sleeper hold over and everyone was like 'fuck off you twat'.

Looking at that, Taker, Show, Jericho, Finlay, Haas, Henry, Khali and Cena would be going over. Maybe Michaels with a sharpshooter. That's your predictomania there...

I could see them trying out Benjamin, Punk, Batista, Knox, but not many more. Doesn't bode well

Despise the idea to be fair. Especially if they are gonna have it with any of those names.

It just wont work. There used to be a mass amount of technical submission based wrestlers kicking about in WWE but now you would be hard pressed to find them.

I love submission matches but a whole PPV filled with them just wont work. I wish they would quit with the MMA stuff.

Bring King of the Ring with this idea, put the semis & final on PPV and see how it goes. If it works then put the quarters on PPV too next year.

Awful idea if you ask me. Its hard enough watching batista try to have a singles match let alone a submission match. Same goes for a lot of the roster.

I think you're thinking on the right lines but a whole ppv of one type of match would suck. HHH V Orton in a main event submission match would lack intensity of a no dq match.

I would love to know why the king of the ring hasn't been brought back properly. Mad Perhaps due to the number of failures they had?

Don't care too much for the idea since Angle, Benoit, Flair, Bret, Owen and Shamrock aren't in WWE. Plus it would mean yet another night for Cena to apply the God awful STF (STS) of his, and claim victory.

Not to mention they would have to kill another ppv to replace it with this one. And what could they replace? None of the big four, Cyber Sunday gets them net traffic, Extreme Rules is fun. GAB, maybe...

I've been all for a couple of themed PPVs for a while, as there are far too many PPVS and that results in matches being re-done. It worked very well with New Years Revolution/ No Way Out being the Elimination Chamber PPV (Granted One Night Stand gets awful buyrates), not that the names really mean anything, but it is a bit strange to change the name of one of the familiar PPVs in Unforgiven if the reports are to be believed.

Whilst 3 of them in one night was probably a bit too much, I quite liked the idea of the Championship scrambles, I think if you did as with last year and put a few random people in it you could be onto a winner, a PPV that in theory is far less predictable than your normal monthly show

Don't talk common sense. We all know WWE is the exact place where common sense somes unstuck. Rolling Eyes
