    Top RAW Superstar to retire?

    Post  Shaun2J on Thu Mar 12, 2009 4:25 pm

    - Dave Meltzer is reporting that JBL has been telling people that he will be retiring soon from the ring. The 42 year old is starting to suffer from back problems again. It's being speculated that JBL may turn face and take on Vladimir Kozlov in one of if not his last match at Wrestlemania. There is also talk that he could retire as IC Champion.

Ah, WM in Texas explains a bit.

Just on the side note, is he now a Grand Slam Champ?

Actually, I've heard he's the only to win the WWE title, Intercontinental, US, Hardcore, European, and Tag Team titles. That's a pretty nice accomplishment!

really don't understand why JBL never turned face, the dull serious JBL is crap, but as the original over jolly JBL (which would have worked as far as taking the piss out of his opponents) or the shouty promo style, the character (as wrong as it would sound for a rich person) would have worked as a face, especially a pro USA one

JBL's always been a character that's easy to hate. I don't know if he intentionally made himself face, but when he called Chris Masters an over-sized orangutan (sp?), I started to like him more.

A face run for JBL would certainly be different, has the JBL character ever really had one?

He's done such a good job as a heel that it is now impossible for him to have a run as a face.

JBL v Koslov at WM? There's a show stealer for sure.

I'd disagree with that. Before he became JBL people would have said it would have been impossible for him to be heel. For a 'mania in Texas he can easily play face. In fact I'm kinda looking forward to it.

And with his possible opponent being billed from Russia, then JBL has obviously got the fans on his side.

I hope he'll be back on commentary after retirement, but I'm not sure who he could replace. Lawler is probably the weakest of the three, but he's too entrenched to be removed.

Given the shakeup last time, I could see

    RAW: JBL + Cole

    SD: Lawler + Tazz

    ECW: JR + Striker

Or....pretty much any combination really, including another attempt at the three man team. That just seems the best one to try and keep things mixed up, and even then you've got Cole/JBL again

Who would be the play by play in a Lawler + Tazz combination? Admittedly play by play doesn't mean very much in WWE but those two are both colour commentators really.

I'd say Tazz - he dips into it quite a bit at times anyway.
