    Must-Play Games

    Post  Mtank325 on Sat Jan 10, 2009 1:48 am

What, in your mind, are the games (or series) that anyone has to play in their lifetime?

Obviously, Super Mario Bros. is a must, and it's a game that is timeless. I'd have to say they'd at least have to try a Grand Theft Auto game, not just because it's a well-crafted game, but especially for any casual gamer who's never really seen the game outside of the media hype.

The one series I haven't truly gotten truly into is Final Fantasy and I really should attempt a bit. I probably would have loved FFVII but unfortunately it's really hard to look at graphically now. I've played spinoffs (Tactics, FFIII on the DS), but haven't gotten truly into any of the newer ones. I think with FFXIII on the 360, I can officially dive into it.

The first two Resident Evils are a must for me, pretty much revived an genre that only Alone In The Dark seemed to have attempted relatively successfully (no doubt I'll get blown out of the water on that). FIFA International Football was amazing, well I'd win a lot as the keepers would never save a shot a) on the edge of the area and b) about 45 degrees into the far corner. Awesome times and spawned a generation of 3D games plus the multi-player was cool too.

At least one GTA - I've always preferred the more arcade-like first, but baring that GTA3 - not played 4 yet

At least one Championship/Football manager game - I'd also recommend the original Kevin Toms version, just to see how advanced it was for a Sinclair Spectrum/Commodore game

Civilisation 2 - from thereon in, the later versions just streamlined a great game

Red Alert - Tanya, Tesla coils...the RTS franchise to beat all them all

Final Fantasy VII for sure... the graphics don't bug me as the gameplay outshines everything and the backgrounds that are drawn are still beauteous.

It certainly is Dub, Final Fantasy VII played like a dream, great story, cracking music, and so damn addictive to play. Guaranteed your moneys worth and more with FFVII

I've been playing computer games since 1989 and FFVII is in my mind is the greatest game ever made, I haven't played an RPG before or after.

I would add the 2d Sonic series

The Metal Gear Solid series, especially the first one.

    GTA

    Gran Turismo

    Centipede.

Ah, I Resident Evil and Tetris idea from Penguin of Doom are two I definitely forgot.

Another is, either Street Fighter II or Mortal Kombat II.

Isnt there a ps3 version of Alone in The Dark due out?? Or already out??

Must play games for me are:

All the Metal Gear Solid games ( 3 and 4 moreso!)
From Final Fantasy 7 upwards (really want FF13 but its taking ages to come out!)
    The Resident Evil games
Call of Duty: World At War

Currently trying to track down a fun old game I had for my Game Boy years ago, called Dr Franken...was really fun to play all those years ago, never got to complete it Sad

They're re-releasing it nicknamed "Inferno" because it was trounced both in sales and critically.

Brian Cloughs football fortunes. Nothing ever beats the sense of joy when one of your opponents loses their two best players in a car crash. Total classic.

Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. Arguably the two best games for the N64.

Super Mario World for the Super Nintendo

Ken Griffey Junior baseball for the Super Nintendo is the best baseball game created in my opinion.

Super Metroid for Super Nintendo was great too

Goldeneye on the N64 is still the best Bond game released so far...multiplayer was awesome.

Alone in the Dark on the PS3 intrigues me as I liked the ps2 version, will keep an eye out for it

I'd take a controller any day over a mouse and keyboard. The Goldeneye controls were perfect. Goldeneye is still the best first person shooter ever, and it's what FPS games try to be today.

I liked it, its not eaxctly hard. It uses the COD4 engine, but has a sort of Rainbox 6 cover system which I liked. It also lasts a fair bit longer then COD4.

    Deus Ex

In my opinion, the BEST PC game ever made. I have played it far too many times to count and I don't think I've ever played it the same way twice.

    Donkey Kong
    Street Fighter II

    Theme Park/Hospital

I'll second the calls for FFVII as well. Best game I've ever played bar none.

Yes, you could probably do it with a one week rental.
