On Tuesday I was on my computer like normal and then it decided to restart.
OK it's happened before.

Now here is the problem, minutes after it has restarted it restarts AGAIN! And AGAIN and AGAIN.

It's somehow stopped but i'm sure it will strike back.

Anyone know why?

What is it? XP? Vista? A MAC?

Could be a virus, CPU, Fan isnt working correct.

Sounds like that Blaster virus that happened ages ago also but if you download patches and security updates alot it should be ok. Probably a hardware issue.

Does the fan sound any different?

XP(Fake) and the fans sound the same.

Sounds like a virus to me. I'd run some scans, AVG is a good, free one if you don't have any. Also I'd check your programs that open at start of the computer (you can do that by pushing ctrl+alt+del and clicking on the processes tab) and see if there's any suspicious ones (If you're unsure just put them into google and see if they come up as good/bad programs). You can also check your starting programs if you go to "start" -> "run" and type in "msconfig" and click the "startup" tab and see if there's any programs that you aren't familiar with.

If not a virus sometimes overheating can be a problem too, if you know your way around a case make sure the fans are clear both inside and out and your CPU fan's operational.

If it's not a virus I'd guess it's an overheating power supply that is on it's way out. Has the machine been louder recently?

Check your system log file to see what's causing it.

If it's caused by something other than overheating, then you could always turn the feature off, otherwise it's pretty critical in the event of overheating or some hardware failure.

To turn this feature off:
- Control Panel
- System (On Vista, this is System and Maintenance -> System, don't know if this is the same as on XP)
- Advanced
- Startup and Recovery
- Then in the System Failure frame, uncheck Automatically Restart

Of course, it's possible that by using a fake version of XP, you're not getting the critical updates preventing you from things like Blaster.

Done everything and it seems to be fine now.

Had a desktop warning but that comes from the moving of icons and files.

I also have a computer problem.

For some reason, most of the time my PC won't shut down first time round. Then after about ten to fifthteen minutes, it'll go back to the desktop & I'll try to shut it down for the second time. Although it doesn't seem to be a major problem it's very annoying to say the least.

I know it's nothing to do with updates & when I run Norton 360 it doesn't come up with any virus etc.

It's a newish computer (about six months old) & I'm using Vista, any help?

Try my method above about using ctrl+alt+del and see if there's any program that's zapping a lot of memory when/before you're shutting down or if there's any suspicious ones.
