    Championship Drought

    Post  Mtank325 on Sat Nov 01, 2008 12:27 am

How long have you been waiting for your team/city to win a championship?

Here in Philly, we have all four major sports and we've been shut out for 25 years, but it all ended last Thursday when the Phillies won the World Series, which was very grand, and despite the country thinking we'd burst open at the prospect of winning, the celebration wasn't too out of control. We were one of the worst cities for not having a winning team.

Cleveland is the worst right now. The last championship was the Browns, however it before the Superbowl and the Cleveland Indians haven't won since the 1940s. The Cavaliers are seemingly close, but they're window is shutting real fast with LeBron James potentially leaving soon.

Not really an issue in Glasgow - one or other of the two big teams have picked up the league between them for nearly 25 years - although as you know it's a slightly different set-up over here in so much as just because one of them wins doesn't mean that everybody is going to be happy (and at the moment, it's me who's pretty miserable!)

    Liverpool - 18/19 years, May 1990 anyway.
St. Helens - Minor premiers each year since 2005, runners up in the final in 07 & 08, won it in 06.
Essendon - 2000, though only followed them since 2004
Boston Red Sox - 2007, followed them after a short bit into the 2004 season.
New York Jets - 1969, started following them in 05/06, couldn't tell you a whole lot about them.

Charlton have existed since 1905 and have NEVER won the league at the highest level. They did win the second tier in 2000, a season that still brings joy to me! Smile

We've got a very decent squad and the blame lies soley at the manager IMO, hopefully he will have gone before Plymouth Away. Unfortunately his ego will not lead to him resigning. Evil or Very Mad

Dortmund haven't won the league since 2002. We won the Supercup this year, but it wasn't really official. Ah the days of the Champions League win in 97 are still to be remembered.

Leeds haven't won anything since 92...oh well. Can we count Champions League Semi- Finalists as a win?
