    Most Anticipated Fall 08' Game

    Post  Mtank325 on Sun Oct 12, 2008 2:11 am

Another holiday season is upon us and another huge slew of big-name games are about to drop (Er... sorry Wii owners...). Which of the large amount of game titles are you looking forward to gaming on this holiday season?

Personally, I'm torn between Gears of War II and Fallout III. Gears of War II looks awesome, but I can see Fallout being one of those 100+ hours, play multiple times kind of games.

To a lesser extent, Fable II looks good, but can't get excited after how much of a let down the first one was.

It is all about Fallout 3 for me. that's it. I don't care about anything else coming out. I haven't looked forward to a game coming out in ages!!!!!!

I thought the original Fable was a great game. People as usual got caught up in the hype pre-release (I admit the majority of it was due to Molyneux's over excited ramblings, but I love Peter), then criticised the game for things that weren't there rather than praising the game for the good to great things it did have actually going for it. Ticked practically every box for me, and can't wait for the sequel.

The main title wetting my appetite is LittleBigPlanet. Everything about the game is exciting me, the art style choice, the freedom to create and the ideas already arising, the online interaction...anticipating all of it and t'will be picking up my PS3 with it when it's released. Sure there's going to be alot of crap created and put online that will have to be ploughed through to get to the gold, and it's still debatable as to whether there will be much of a game in there outside of the creation side of things, but they're only minor quibbles for me as it's the creation side I'm in for.

To a lesser extent slightly than LBP, the new Banjo is exciting me too with every little tidbit released relating to it. Seems to unintentionally have followed a similar path with LBP with it's vechile creation and challenges set which can be achieved through a variety of possibilities through your own creations. Seems to have enough links to the old Banjo's but still taken a new route to reintroduce the franchise to a new audience (marmite for those that wanted another platformer).

Other games taking my fancy: Dead Space, Left 4 Dead, Mirror's Edge (more out of intrigue, as I see this being this years Assassin's Creed, built up with too much hype then being slagged off...admittedly fairly when compared to Fable 1 for me), Far Cry 2, FM'09

I'd maybe wait for reviews. It's being done by Treyarch, a different company then COD4 which was developed by Infinity Ward who's working on COD6.

I liked it too, but it was just way too short and I played it through about 3-4 times. If it had a few more villages and stuff you could freely run around in I'd be more happier but only about 5 villages and only 2-3 that were open for you to play as you want (ex. murdering all the citizens and buying their property) which was really poor especially when you see games now like Oblivion where there's tons of villages where you've got not only free run of the many towns, but there's a lot more to do in each. I'm hopeful for Fable 2 but Molyneux already said a 12-hour game is a standard runthrough. He also said there'd be a lot more in extra content, so that's what I'm hoping for.

Surely it would be fairer to contrast and compare to Morrowind than Oblivion, which was released a generation later so of course will have larger scopes. Taking that into account, Morrowind was very flawed. To be fair Oblivion isn't exactly a masterpiece, very good game that it is. I worry people are again expecting the moon.

24th October, a quick scan through Gameplay's site reveals:

    Fable2
    Little Big Planet
    Farcry 2
    Dead Space
    Disaster: Day of Crisis
    Legendary
    Vampyre Story

Then you've got COD5, Banjo and Mirror's Edge all released on the 14th November. Not including the influx of other titles, and people say we're at a low period for games.

COD 5 is being made by the people who made COD3 but it does use the COD4 engine, the vids and pics that are up look excellent. Flamethrowers are making a long over-due apperance, in the Japan section the enemy hides in tress and bushs to ambush you.

The next Prince of Persia looks pretty badass and although it's still kind of a bastard brother to GTAIV, Saint's Row II looks pretty decent. I also forgot Red Alert 3 is due out this year and I just installed Yuri's Revenge for my bro to play and I've been delving back into it.

Liking the look of Fallout 3 but haven't played either of the previous two. Is it necessary?

I doubt it. The new one doesn't look much like the first 2.

Warhammer Online looks great as well and I've needed another MMO since getting out of Guild Wars but damn subscription fees.

I'm kind of curious about the Warhammer a bit. I don't mind the subscription fees though. I haven't played WoW in over 6 months.

Saw that DC Universe is going to have a MMO coming out and was considering that one.

BTW, for the collector's edition for Fallout 3, here's what's being offered:

A lot of Collector's Editions never really seem worth it, but that doesn't look too bad for an extra $15-20.

The new DS game actually has been getting decent reviews, but it's being done by Bioware, so that kind of explains it.
